The knowledge and skill level amongst the members is wide. Whatever stage you are at, the likelihood is that you will find others at around the same place. Almost all of them enjoy discussing photography and sharing what they know. If you have a query, someone will have an answer or at least a suggestion as to where to look. Although some members do professional photographic work, the emphasis is on amateur photography and developing it as an art form and a hobby.
There are currently two regular meetings each month (excluding the Christmas holiday period). These are held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month. The 1st is a “Workshop” and aims to be either (or both) educational or entertaining about some aspect of photography. The other is an “Assessment Night” in which pictures submitted by members are critiqued.
Field trips are also held from time to time and a number of private informal groups are arranged between members to delve into particular interests or needs. These may be ongoing or short term.
The North Shore Photographic Society is affiliated to the Photographic Society of New Zealand (PSNZ), sharing that organisation’s resources and participating in the competitions and activities it promotes.
